Surya Chandra Surapaty, MPH, PhD, has been appointed the new Chairman of the National Family Planning Coordinating Board in Indonesia. Previously, he was a Member of Parliament from the ruling party PDI-P (Indonesian Democratic Party). He also served as the Chair of Commission VII (Health) in Parliament.
His technical background is demography; he received his PhD in Population Planning and International Health from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
The swearing-in took place on May 26. He replaces previous chair Dr. Fasli Djalal.
The AFP initiative looks forward to continued close collaboration with BKKBN under Surapaty's leadership, as well as on the upcoming International Conference on Family Planning in Nusa Dua.
