Vira David-Rivera is a senior program officer in communications for the Advance Family Planning initiative with the Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Vira leads the update of the SMART Advocacy materials to create a practical, adaptable, and transformational guide to achieve policy and funding change. She is driven to achieve reproductive justice, the human right to maintain personal bodily autonomy, have children, not have children, and parent the children we have in safe and sustainable communities. She is most proud of designing a methodology to reach systemically excluded adolescent girls, rolling out evidence-based sex education in Baltimore City Schools, and using data visualization techniques to uncover gaps and demonstrate impact. In her free time, Vira serves as the treasurer for the Baltimore Abortion Fund and chases her nature-loving toddler.
