Evidence & Briefs

Advance Family Planning uses evidence as a basis to advocate for better policies and increased funding for family planning. AFP assumes policy-makers will act on compelling evidence that is presented in an accessible way and by a credibly messenger. Messages are tailored to decision-makers and designed to change the way they choose to enact and implement policies and allocate resources. AFP builds upon the skills of local family planning champions to maintain a regular drumbeat of interaction and information to raise the profile and funding of family planning. Evidence, complemented by powerful stories illustrating the effect on people’s lives, is central to AFP’s approach.

AFP and its partners conduct landscape assessments to establish the status of family planning in countries where AFP operates. Landscape analyses for Tanzania, Uganda and Indonesia are available and will be updated in early 2013; for other countries, they will be available soon.

AFP and partners develop policy briefs that document the evidence needed to inform key decision makers and support ongoing advocacy efforts. These policy briefs are available for duplication and adaptation.

In 2011, AFP underwent a midterm evaluation to document whether AFP and its partners were effective at advocating for family planning. The results of the midterm were overwhelmingly positive, and can be found below.
