Subnational Budget Advocacy Yields First-Time Financial Support by Mayors for FP in 7 Communes and Counting

AFP's partner in Senegal, Réseau Siggil Jigéen, with technical support from Palladium, has had success using the AFP approach to advocate for a total of US $32,500 of financial investment at the subnational level as of January 2016. Working together with partners and key stakeholders in each commune, with support from the Direction for Reproductive Health and Child Survival (DSRSE) of the national Ministry of Health, RSJ has encouraged mayors to make financial allocations in their communal budgets for 2015 and 2016. These first-time investments will benefit women seeking family planning services at the health posts covered by each of the target communes.

Under the authority of the Prefect of Pikine, RSJ has helped local stakeholders create a Special Departmental Development Committee (CDD) for Family Planning to develop indicators for following these investments and document how they are impacting women's access to quality FP information and services.
