Jhpiego India

Jhpiego is an international, non-profit, global health affiliate of Johns Hopkins University. For 40 years and in over 155 countries, Jhpiego has worked to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. Jhpiego enhances the health and saves the lives of women and families in limited-resource settings. For nearly four decades, Jhpiego has put evidence-based health innovations into practice to overcome barriers to high-quality health care services for the world's most vulnerable populations. Originally rooted in reproductive, maternal and child health, Jhpiego has grown to provide technical assistance on new challenges, including HIV/AIDS, malaria and cervical cancer prevention—reflecting the increasing interconnectedness of global health.

Jhpiego has been working in India since the 1980s, when it began to strengthen reproductive health services with funding from the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) and in collaboration with the Government of India (GoI) and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Currently, Jhpiego partners with the Government of India (GoI) to implement a wide range of programs, funded by multiple donors to 1) strengthen family planning services; 2) strengthen the nursing midwifery cadre in India; 3) improve the quality of maternal and newborn health.

As Advance Family Planning’s partner in India, Jhpiego is working to bring about programmatic and policy level changes to ensure access to quality in family planning services, initially in two districts of Jharkhand state, India.
